Greetings Y'all!
Well the first race meet is now officially under our belt. Depsite a couple inches of rain the night before, we had a good race track and dust flying by the 5th race! A BIG thank you to Mark Swinehart for all the hours spent getting the track in shape.
We had some awesome races again this year. Whether they were fast or slow, the finishes were great. We have received a lot of concerns about the amount of time it took to get the races completed. Please know that we understand this and are taking steps to move things along. At the next meet we will NOT allow horses to warm up in between races -- we will schedule one break (maybe two depending on the number of races). Horses will have to schedule their warm ups either prior to the races or during the scheduled break. I think this will be a benefit to all.. Also, please be alert and don't be afraid to be the first one on the race track for your race -- it seemed many times everyone was waiting for someone else to be the first one out there. Take the initiative to be first -- who knows maybe the first one on the track means first to the finish line? =)
Don't forget that Mineral Point is this upcoming weekend. Although this is a matinee harness meet with no purses/charted lines, it is a great opportunity to get a tightener in for your next trip to Chicago or start your two year old and be able to tinker with equipment to see if you got it right. They have a great horseman's feed afterwards for all the horsemen and their families -- I hear June's potato salad is second to none! Box closes Thursday at 11am.
Keep Cool!
-Gabe
