Ward Schuette
1920-1990

Ward Schuette was a longtime member of WHHA and served many terms as a board member and president. Ward was a USTA Director for 13 years and served on numerous committees within the USTA. He initiated many changes most notably with the drivers committee. Ward was an active driver and enjoyed great success in 1953 when his pacer Lesota's Counsel won 11 of 16 starts and was never worse than third. He was partial, however, to trotters and was fond of the top $200,000 winner Heather Kyle who raced for Schuette. Ward gave unselfishly of his time and energy to help keep racing alive at many Wisconsin fairs. he was instrumental in encouraging many young people to becomine active in harness racing and helped them through the licensing procedures so that they could drive at the fairs. Ward loved harness racing and pursued that interest until the day he died.
