Wisconsin Harness Racing Hall of Fame

Prairie Nancy
1958-1988
Inducted 1991

Prairie Nancy is the first equine member of the Wisconsin Harness Racing Hall of Fame. Just as her human counterparts have, Prairie Nancy has brought fame to Wisconsin through her ability on the track and as a broodmare. The roan mare raced in Wisconsin, winning 66 races as a three, four, five and six year old pacer. She was bred, trained, raced and kept as a producing broodmare by the Yohn's Prairie Acres Stable of Fall River, Nancy was home bred by the sire Royal Jr. and out of the mare Jane Ruby, both being owned by the late R.W. Yohn. After being retired from her racing career, Nancy proved herself an outstanding broodmare, having produced foals that earned over $906,000. Among these foals were Prairie Byrd, Prairie Acres, Prairie Streaker, Prairie Beauty, Prairie Badger and Prairie Junior. In 1982 Prairie Nancy was honored as the Illinois Broodmare of the Year, as her foals were consistent Illinois winners.
