The Wisconsin Harness Horse Association will sponsor a summer-long handicapping contest, based upon the results of races at the state’s county fairs.
The objective is to pick the most winners overall, after having picked one horse as the potential winner in each race at all the Wisconsin race meets in 2007. Based upon the order of finish, points will be awarded in the following manner:
A win will earn 45 points;
A second place finish will earn 25 points;
A third place finish will earn 15 points;
A fourth place finish will earn 10 points; and
A fifth place finish will earn five points.
In addition, in races in which two heats are contested only the first heat will be a part of the contest. Points will be accumulated beginning at the Elkhorn race meet on June 30, and be accumulated at each meet through the end of the racing season, at Viroqua on Sept. 16. If a horse is a late scratch no substitute selection will be permitted, and the contestant will receive no points in that race.
Everyone is welcome to participate, including fans, owners, trainers, and drivers. Entries must be submitted to Gabe Wand, Susan Schroeder, or to the judge’s stand one-half hour prior to post time at each meet. Rice Lake entries must be given to Joanne Gilbertson, the video coordinator at that track.
It will be the contestant’s responsibility to meet the entry deadline, without exception. Those who cannot attend the day of racing can e-mail entries to gabewand@yahoo.com, by 11:59 p.m. (CDT), the night prior to the race date.
Race entries can be obtained from the U.S. Trotting Association Web site, under “Entries/Results,” at www.ustrotting.com. The winner will be recognized as the “Star Handicapper” at the 2007 Wisconsin Harness Horse Association’s annual meeting and banquet in January 2008.
There are no other prizes and no entry fee. Click here for an entry form.

According to the Horseman & Fair World magazine, Sneaky B Skipalong is the current season leader for 3YO colt pacers on a half mile track. This colt by Cole Muffler was bred by Wisconsonite Richard Fish of Rice Lake. Sneaky B Skipalong is currently owned by the Brandy Pinske Stable & Cynthia Kay Willis, both of Illinois and trained by Nelson Willis. Dale Hiteman drove Sneaky B Skipalong to his lifetime best at Maywood Park on June 8th in the Maywood Pace Consolation. Congratulations!
I can't believe it's only 10 days and we will be racing at the first race meet of the year! The season kicks off with a meet in Monroe, WI as part of the St. Victor Church Festival. Racing will begin at 1:00pm.
I just wanted to remind everyone that plans on racing to be sure to bring your ORIGINAL AND PHOTOCOPY of your 2007 negative Coggins Test. No one will be able to race without them - no exceptions.
Also, this is a WHHA co-sponsored meet so ALL drivers must be WHHA members and at least one owner and/or trainer of each horse racing must be amember. Not to worry though, I will have membership forms there waiting :-)
We will also have plenty of Raffle Calendars there! The first drawing is June 16th, so this would be your last chance to purchase a Raffle Calendar without missing the first drawing (though they will be available for purchase all year).
I hope all is well with everyone - see you soon!
Gabe Wand - WHHA President
