Stay tuned for exciting ways the WHHA is planning on being part of this
national day at the races Aug 14-15!
The U.S. Trotting Association is inviting all of America to the races.
The USTA, with the cooperation of its member racetracks, has designated the weekend of Aug. 14-15 as the time to go “Back to the Track.” Those who go to the harness races then will find a variety of special promotions and events to make their visit fun.
The Back to the Track concept originated with USTA Executive Vice President Mike Tanner. Noting that on-track attendance has been in decline in recent years, his aim is to simply remind everyone that going to the harness races remains an exciting form of entertainment.
“For one day, I think we can highlight the excitement of the on-track experience," he said. "I want to use our 21,000 members to be our marketing agents, to have them each bring one, two or three friends to the track that night.
“It’s going to be a chance for veteran fans to again experience the on-track excitement that made us racing fans in the first place, and we hope to give new fans a chance to build memories of their first night at the races -- which we hope will remain with them for years to come.”
To that end, each of the 20 harness racetracks that will be offering live racing on Aug. 14 or 15 will make fans feel welcome by offering special incentives and attractions that will be announced in the coming weeks.
The USTA is also exploring the possibility of a national Pick-4 or Pick-6 wager, and handicapping contests at each participating track.
“We’ve received nothing but positive feedback from the many tracks and horsemen’s organizations we’ve spoken to,” Tanner said, “and now we need our members and racing fans to make it happen.
